性质：无色液体。分子量154.25。密度0.896 g/cm3。沸点205℃。折射率1.450。微溶于水。溶于大多数有机溶剂。以1:3溶于70%乙醇，溶于油质香料。有清凉的薄荷样香气，木香底蕴。香气散发，不甚持久，口味是清凉，但亦有不愉快的苦味。
生产方法编辑
主要采用氧化法。以薄荷醇为原料，经氧化反应而得。
也可从天然薄荷、老鹳草、芳须芒草等天然原料中，可经真空蒸馏切取204-212℃馏分，将其转变成肟或缩氨基脲，进行重结晶，分离出纯的薄荷酮或异薄荷酮。薄荷酮可由胡薄荷酮或胡椒酮还原而得。
主要用途编辑
酮类合成香料。主要用作薄荷、薰衣草、玫瑰等香精的调合香料。也用于香叶天竺葵油等的调配。
亦可用于合成青蒿素。
是配制香叶油的香料，微量用于香茅醇中或用于玫瑰等花香香精中，有提调花香之作用，适量用于薰衣草、香薇、辛香等型的香料中。是食用凉味香精的原料，用于果香精如悬钩子等，可提调香味，并增加鲜清而减少过甜的口味。也是牙膏赋香的好香料。
