根皮素是国外新近研究开发出来的一种新型天然皮肤美白剂，主要分布于苹果、梨等多汁水果的果皮及根皮。能抑制皮脂腺的过度分泌，用于治疗分泌旺盛型粉刺；能抑制黑色素细胞活性，对各种皮肤色斑有作用。与同类天然成分熊果苷和曲酸相比，同等浓度的根皮素对酪氨酸酶的抑制作用要好于它们，并且当其与熊果苷和/或曲酸进行复配时，能大大提高产品对酪氨酸酶的抑制率，使抑制率达到100%。
